What is Toastmasters? • Active worldwide organisation • Established in 1924 in the USA • Now has a member base of 292,000 • 14,350 clubs in 122 countries • 0 Clubs in Sudan • At 92 USD the first year and 72 USD thereafter, Toastmasters is said to be “the greatest investment you can make in yourself”

What is Toastmasters? • Learn-by-doing workshop in a no-pressure atmosphere • No teachers, only members as facilitators • Helps participants hone their skills in • Speaking • Leadership • Focuses on the development of • Prepared and impromptu speaking skills • Leadership skills like timekeeping, running meetings & parliamentary procedure

  9. How TMs can help you develop • Through participation in Toastmasters, you can earn internationally-recognized qualifications in • Public speaking/presentation skills • Leadership • You can (and should) work on both tracks simultaneously

Communication Track • Competent Communicator (CC) is achieved through the successful completion of 10 projects (or speeches) • P1 Icebreaker • P2 Organize your speech • P3 Get to the point • P4 How to say it • P5 Your body speaks • P6 Vocal variety • P7 Research your topic • P8 Get comfortable with visual aids • P9 Persuade with power • P10 Inspire your audience

Advanced Communication Track • There are 15 manuals, each containing five speech projects. • Many of the manuals are career-oriented. • You choose the manuals you want to complete and the skills you want to learn. • Examples of AC manuals include: storytelling, professional speaking, facilitating discussion, speaking to inform, the entertaining speaker, communicating on video, specialty speeches

Advanced Communication Track • Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB) • Achieved Competent Communicator award • Completed two Advanced Communication Series manuals • Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS) • Achieved Advanced Communicator Bronze award • Completed two additional advanced communication manuals • Conducted any two presentations from The Better Speaker Series and/or The Successful Club Series • Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG) • Achieved Advanced Communicator Silver award • Completed two additional advanced communication manuals • Conducted a presentation from the Success/Leadership Series, Success/Communication Series or a Youth Leadership • Coached a new member with the first 3 speech projects

Leadership Track • Competent Leader or CL is your first leadership qualification. • It features 10 projects, which you complete while serving in various club meeting roles. • An evaluator will give you feedback on each project, helping you to improve. • When you complete the manual, you are eligible for Competent Leader (CL) recognition.

Advanced Leadership Track • Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) • Achieved Competent Leader (CL) award • Achieved Competent Communicator (CC) award • Served at least six months as a club officer (president, vice president education, vice president membership, vice president public relations, secretary, treasurer or sergeant at arms) and participated in the preparation of a Club Success Plan while serving in this office • While serving in the above office, participated in a district-sponsored club officer training program • Conducted any two presentations from The Successful Club Series and/or The Leadership Excellence Series • Advanced Leader Silver (ALS) • Achieved Advanced Leader Bronze award • Served a complete term as a district leader (district governor, lieutenant governor, public relations officer, secretary, treasurer, division governor or area governor). A complete term is defined as having served at least from September 1 through June 30. • Completed the High Performance Leadership (HPL) program • Served successfully as a club sponsor, mentor or coach

Serve in Leadership Roles • You can serve in leadership roles at various levels • Club • President, VP Education, VP PR, VP Membership, Sgt at Arms, Secretary & Treasurer • Area • Area Governor • Division • Division Governor • District • District Governor, DG Education & Training, DG Membership/Marketing • International • Int’l President

The Ultimate Qualification • Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM)The Distinguished Toastmaster award is the highest award bestowed and it recognizes both communication and leadership skills. • To be eligible for the DTM award a member must have: • Achieved Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG) award • Achieved Advanced Leader Silver (ALS) award
