  8. Parent-Teacher Conferences • Good communication with teachers is essential to student success. • While email is adequate for a quick note, sometimes face-to-face meetings between a teacher, student and parent are essential. • To schedule a conference, call the office.

  9. Handwriting • Good handwriting is very important for student success, but some students need more practice. • There are a few online sources for handwriting you can access as parents: http://www.handwritingforkids.com/handwrite/practice/index.htm http://www.spellingcity.com/handwriting-practice.html

  10. Class Guidelines In an effort to make expectations clear regarding classroom behavior, there are certain guidelines regarding conduct and behavior in-class. The following policies can also be viewed in the class website: • Always show up to classON TIME. Walking in late to class three times will result in the lowering of the Effort Grade one full letter.  Ex: If you have a "B" in effort, and are late to class a third time, you will receive a "C" in effort. • Have ALL your supplies in class every day.  If you come into class missing supplies three times, your effort grade will be lowered one full letter.  Ex: If you have an "A" in effort, and do not bring your supplies a third time, you will receive a "B" in effort.  • Restroom passes will be given only 3 times per semester to each student.  Try to use the restroom before class. In the event of an emergency or medical condition, the three-pass rule may be reevaluated on a case-by-case basis. • ALWAYS treat your classmates with respect - some people have a hard time reading or writing, just like you did once. Be patient and helpful, and when you make a mistake people will be more understanding. • ALWAYS treat your teachers (and substitutes) with respect. They work hard to make the classroom a safe and comfortable learning environment, and to make sure they're doing all they can to help you. Furthermore, they know a LOT more than you do, and probably have a reason for everything they do.

  11. Language Arts Florida Standards • The Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS) are the standards by which students will be evaluated each day. • Miss Morrow has completed extensive coursework to make sure that she has been the best equipped to prepare students for the new test. • Students will become familiar with the standards through working with them each day.

  12. Grading Grading, according to the Miami-Dade County Public Schools System, is broken into 3 parts; academic grades, conduct grades, and effort grades. • Academic grades (A-Z) are used to measure scholastic aptitude and achievement. • Conduct grades (A-F) are determined by the student’s behavior in the classroom. • Work ethic (1-3) is evaluated through the Effort grade. • Late work is not accepted in Miss Morrow’s class. For any concern with absences and missed work, please refer to the section in the Syllabus on “Absences and Make-up Work”.
