  2. RENDEV EIE/06/248/S12.448127 1) Project summary The project offers to disperse training and capacity buildingon renewable energy technologies in Bangladesh and Indonesia to strengthen local strategies and legislations, encourage sustainable economic development and alleviate poverty The project also sets out to increase availability and usage of a decentralized rural electrification systems in Bangladesh and Indonesia through linking up simultaneously microfinance (MF) mechanisms, solar energy (SE) technology and Small and Medium size Enterprise (SME) development.

  3. Increased awareness for energy integrated policies, rural development and microfinance with specific priority on attaining the MDG objectives. Building on a sufficiently large market for sustainable energy systems to accelerate wide-scale provision of solar home systems and PV modules through microfinance lending methodologies, reinforce ME development and accelerate poverty alleviation. Positive contribution towards national development in Bangladesh and Indonesia and particularly rural development and poverty reduction. RENDEV EIE/06/248/S12.448127 2) Aims / Objectives

  4. RENDEV EIE/06/248/S12.448127 3) Activities (Work Packages) • Project management • Development of solar panel users and monitoring tools to create an integrated framework for implementation and optimal use of sustainable energy products. • Development of market feasibility and needs assessment studies to get a grasp of the market demand for solar energy products and to conduct further research and analysis for system improvement. • Enabling cross-sectoral linkages to provide training and capacity building in the use of solar energy for Micro-enterprise development. • Developing a financial model to open access of renewables to the poor and integrate them in the poverty reduction strategies. • Facilitating community involvement and raising social awareness for renewable energy services. • Specific information dissemination on microfinance and renewable energy services to establish and assess the importance of solar energies as service provider and necessary tool in the MDG poverty reduction strategies. • Common information dissemination

  5. RENDEV EIE/06/248/S12.448127 4) Expected results • Reinforcing of the aptitude and competence of all the stakeholders regrouping microfinance institutions, local communities, local authorities, NGOs, development community, solar energy system providers working in the renewable energy sector. • Facilitation of the cross-sectoral links between solar energy and other core sectors tackled by development programmes such as health, education, and water supply. • Development of solid policies linking sustainable energy and poverty reduction strategies. • Development and provision of an energy guideline and of standard models for energy directed at the affiliated development sectors (education, health and water supply). • Facilitation and provision of a replicable model for use in the neighbouring
