  1. POSITIVE ATTITUDE AT WORK

  2. “You might be the best worker to have ever set foot through the doors of your company – but if you don’t have the right attitude, you still won’t get far.” - Unknown

  3. A positive attitude is more than just wearing a smile on your face and being pleasant around other people. It's a perspective that sees opportunities and progress when others would only see challenges and dead ends. It’s necessary to have a happy and successful professional life.

  4. Positivity at work is essential for both productivity and general wellbeing; it involves keeping a positive outlook even in trying circumstances.

  5. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT CAN HINDER YOU FROM HAVING A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AT WORK? DISCUSS

  6. While it would be good to be effortlessly joyful at the office every day, work is a stressful environment. It can bring out negative attitudes all too easily; trying to juggle deadlines, irritating coworkers, and different personality dynamics can sometimes make it feel impossible to cultivate a daily positive attitude.

  7. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AT WORK? DISCUSS

  8. ENHANCED PRODUCTIVITY A positive attitude can lead to increased focus, and an ability to handle tasks under pressure.

  9. IMPROVED RELATIONSHIPS It fosters better communication, teamwork and ability to resolve conflicts in a professional and amicable manner. Employees who demonstrate a good attitude are more satisfied at work, have better relationships with their colleagues and are seen as good candidates for promotion.

  10. MENTAL WELL-BEING Associates with a positive attitude tend to experience lower stress levels and higher job satisfaction promoting overall mental health. Positivity helps you feel more relaxed and joyful, which leads to better overall health. “Positivity breeds productivity”

  11. Tips for Cultivating a Positive Attitude

  12. Start and end each day focusing on the things you are grateful for, no matter how small they may seem. PRACTICE MINDFULNESS CONTINUOUS LEARNING EMBRACE GRATITUDE Engage in mindfulness exercises to stay centered and focused amid daily work stressors. Seek new skills and knowledge relevant to your role, fostering a sense of growth and accomplishment.

  13. HOW TO MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AT WORK

  14. TAKE TIME TO SELF-ASSESS AND TAKE DEEP BREATHS • It is important to keep a good outlook by responding to stressful situations with composure and letting them go when you can. • Reacting out of rage is never a smart move. Try to get into the practice of pausing when something upsets you before reacting. • For example, you may move to a quiet area and gather your thoughts, or you could close your eyes and take ten deep breaths to relax.

  15. DO NOT TAKE CRITICISM PERSONALLY • Try to keep in mind that criticism of your work is usually not directed at you personally. Avoid dwelling on it and developing negative thought patterns. • Try to pay attention to what the other person is saying instead of reacting defensively right away. Put yourself in their position and try to fully understand their point of view. • You can still gain knowledge from their feedback, even if you don't agree with it. Don't disregard it. Try to approach it objectively instead.

  16. SPEND TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE • It is said you are a combination of your five closest friends, so it makes sense that your work persona would reflect the colleagues you spend the most time with. Who do you spend time with at work and what does it say about your attitude? • Aim to stay away from interacting with negative coworkers who complain about their jobs during their spare time. While positivity may spread easily, negativity also does.

  17. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS • Do not be the kind of person who never owns up to a mistake. • Unwillingness to accept responsibility for your actions may lead to dislike among colleagues who recognize that you were at fault. • Remember that while you cannot control everything that happens to you, you can control how you respond.

  18. DEAL WITH PROBLEMS PROFESSIONALLY • Leaving a problem unaddressed is a recipe for resentment and accumulated negativity. Approach the issue with openness and respect. • Go through the proper channels, depending on the issue. Engage your supervisor to address the problem and suggest alternatives. • If it is an associate’s actions, approach them privately and try to resolve the disagreement before bringing it to the management.

  19. PRACTICE GRATITUDE – NO ONE OWES YOU ANYTHING • One of the easiest ways to destroy a positive attitude is to develop a sense of entitlement. Feeling like the world owes you can easily lead you into passive-aggressive behavior and permanent identity of victimhood. • Try reframing problems as an opportunity for growth and creative solutions.

  20. PRACTICE GRATITUDE – NO ONE OWES YOU ANYTHING • Make it your goal to look at each hurdle with a ‘glass half full’ perspective. • When you are given a new task at work try saying something like “sounds interesting!” or “let’s do this!” instead of “oh no”.

  21. STOP COMPLAINING – BE PROACTIVE ABOUT YOUR ISSUES • No matter how positive you plan to be, there will always be those colleagues, customers or tasks that will do their best to get under your skin. • While it is tempting to complain about an irritating customer, coworker or an inconvenient office policy, it will not help you. Dwelling on the objects of your complaint will not do your outlook any favors either. It just helps build up your dissatisfaction at work.

  22. STOP COMPLAINING – BE PROACTIVE ABOUT YOUR ISSUES • Acknowledge beforehand that something or someone upsets you and decide that you will not let them bother you anymore. • If it is something you cannot change like an irritating customer you are not doing yourself any favors by giving them control of your emotions. Expect the irritating behavior so that it does not take you by surprise. You would be surprised by how much of a difference a little mental preparation will make.

  23. HANZI CHII? AVOID GOSSIP • There are a few things more poisonous to a work environment than gossip. It creates an atmosphere of mistrust. • Do your best to avoid participating in such destructive conversations and if you find yourself unable to escape the situation, play the role of a mute listener. • Do not engage with gossip or encourage it in any way. If you feel able to, you can also say, “I don’t feel comfortable talking about this anymore.”

  24. Remember… • Embracing Positivity – a positive attitude at work leads to a harmonious environment, enhanced well-being, and improved productivity benefiting both associates and the organization as a whole. • Continuous Improvement – cultivating a positive work culture and attitude is an ongoing journey, requiring commitment and consistent efforts from all stakeholders. • Impact beyond the workplace – positive attitudes at work can extend to personal lives, enhancing overall happiness and fulfillment outside of the professional arena.
