Teamwork is a big part of the culture at Simbisa. • Understanding our personality and communication style along with those of our team mates will allow us to operate in a more effective manner. • Working together towards a common goal provides a more fulfilling work experience and will ultimately result in better performance.

  9. What Are My Personal Strengths?

  10. Understanding how you interact and how others perceive those interactions will help you become a stronger team mate. • Each team is made up of many different types of personalities and those differences are what will allow a team to be successful. • These personal tendencies can be grouped into four categories. The colors for each category are used to help you remember the styles and their descriptions. • No one style is better than another.

  11. Adventurer

  12. Adventurers are action oriented. • They don’t beat around the bush and tend to be direct. • They are concerned more about the here and now instead of the future. • They are impatient at times and just want the bottom line. • Adventurers are typically unorganized. They aren’t ruled by deadlines. They learn by doing and by trying to figure things out on their own.

  13. DESCRIPTIVE WORDS Adventuresome Self – Reliant Decisive Take authority Confident Direct Competitive Impatient Easily Bored Needs a Challenge Cut “Red Tape” Risk Taker

  14. THEY SAY… • “What’s your point?” • “Just give me an opportunity and I’ll show you” • “There must be a shorter/better way.” • “Want to hear a joke?” • “Watch me!”

  15. When putting a child’s bike together they: Throw away the directions. Don’t worry about left over parts. Throw them away! If you are Adventurer, consider the following suggestions: • Learn to relax • Slow down and be courteous • Explain the “Why” • Find a system that allows you to be organized P.S. The Adventurers have already probably scanned all four styles and decided which one they are.

Dependables are stable and predictable. • They like consistency and things they can count on. • They are responsible. • They value rules, tradition and authority. • People with dependable personality style may be reluctant to share their opinion, especially if there are Adventurers and Peacemakers around to dominate conversation.

  27. Analyticals are very precise, detailed and logical. • Analyticals like to do things right the first time and will stick to a task… no matter how long it takes. • They are quality focused and are cautious until all the facts are in. They expect the same for everyone else, too. • Analyticals like control and may stake out their territory and their possessions including office/desk supplies. • They can be judgmental if others aren’t as organized and detail oriented as they are.

  30. When putting a child’s bike together they: Read the directions, organize all the parts, and gather all necessary tools. Sometimes they will line up the parts in the order they will used them. Read directions again. Take bike apart and start over until all the pieces are used. If you are an Analytical, consider the following suggestion: • Allow others to share emotions • Listen to intuition versus reasons on occasion • Remember that sometimes 90% is good enough • Be realistic about expectation P.S The Analyticals will go back and read all the styles over again for complete understanding before they commit to a style!

  31. Communication style tips

  32. When communicating with others it also helps to understand what communication color the receiver is, also. Using the following tips you can adjust your communication style to optimize the effectiveness of the message.

  33. Personal strengths: Personal Preferences

  34. You may have noticed that some styles are similar to each other, while other styles are very different. It is important to remember each styles preferences when interacting with your team members. You may also say, “I see myself as a peacemaker and dependable. Is that possible?” The answer is “Yes!” The test gives a score to indicate which style you prefer. However, it is possible to be a combination of all of the styles. While we may use a couple of styles, there is generally one style which is preferred.

  35. Similar ……… and ……….. are both high energy and decisive. ………. and …….are both social and sensitive about what others think. Different Typically, red is the opposite of……. Typically, blue is the opposite of …….

  36. Applying My Strengths to my Team’s dynamics

  37. As we discovered earlier, our individuality is what makes a team effective. Now that we understand our personality strengths we need to identify how they can be used in your current work situation. • Why do I want to help my team mates? • How can my strengths impact the teams performance? • How will you consider your team mates personality trends when interacting with them?

  38. Remember, there are strengths in all personalities and all types are needed on the team for the team to be successful. • We need people that will ensure everyone is involved (Peacemaker). • We need people that know the facts and pay attention to the details (Analyticals). • We need more people that will help us question the status quo and encourage us to have (Adventurers). • We need people that will show up, follow through and get things done (Dependables).

  39. DEVELOPING A TRUE TEAM

  40. Team members have a dual role. Individuals are responsible for building the team as well as accountable for driving team performance. These roles create a true team to become more than a collection of people. Through a strong sense of mutual commitment the team develops synergy, which creates a greater result than had each member worked alone. What Can I do to make my team stronger?

  41. Be aware Understanding what opportunities, you and your team have will allow you to identify where to place your focus as individuals and as a group. • Know where your individual performance ranks • Know where your team performance ranks within you area and region • Track your individual and team performance daily

  42. Be Accountable Creating an environment of team accountability will foster a sense of individual responsibility and team ownership. When you have a vested interest in something you will perform at a higher level to see that it is successful. Create an environment of team accountability • Develop strong collaborative relationships • Keep your team on task • Practice great attendance

  43. Be encouraging One of the greatest things about being a part of a team is celebrating successes. • Celebrate daily successes • Discover best practices on performance • Set an example
