  1. Because He Loved us first - Part 2 1 John 4:7-8; John 1:12-13

  2. Matthew 24:12 (NASB) "Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. • Hebrews 10:24-25 (NASB) and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

  3. 1 John 4:7-8 (NASB)Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of Godand knows God. 8The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

  4. “Born” – what does it mean? • 1 John 4:7: • “Born” – translates from Greek, a common meaning, “to come to life, to be born.” Not conception but birth itself; to breathe, to arise, to become. • Born ofKirby and Billie Smith, 1/13/51 • Their DNA; their likeness; their nature.

  5. Born “of God” – what does it mean? • 1 John 4:7: • Born “of God” – • God is the creator, the cause of birth • Romans 1:3-4; Acts 13:32-33 • A second birth, by Word of God • 2nd birth is important: John 3:4-8; v5.

  6. First use of Greek word outside of the normal meaning: John 1:12-13: • God gives the right (rightly mine, given) • To become His child (He is loving Father). • To those who are born of God. (John 3:5) • Defined as: • Those who receive Him, believein His name.

  7. “received Him, believe in His name” – defined by what it is not. • Not those who are born: • of blood. (because my parents knew God. Jews descendants of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob) • of the will of the flesh. (entitlement - I am a human being; my right – God is love!) • of the will of man. (I have decided to be.)

  8. Receive Him, believe in his name • We receive, not earn, not deserve. God is love. He gives. • God offers His love, forgiveness. • We believe in His name and surrender to His will. • John 6:47, 6:51-58; 1 John 5:1; John 2:23-25

  9. Those who receive him. • Nature of God is love. God is a generous giver. • Love begets, creates. 1:3-4; • Love gives. It never takes. 6:63, 3:16 • Love lives. Like a fountain that gushes from its original source – love gives life. • John 4:10-14

  10. Believers give away what god has given them – His love! • 1 John 4:7 (NASB)Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of Godand knows God. 8The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
