  1. Our Audacity Projects and how we created them.

  2. For 3 to 4 weeks this term, my class has been studying the concepts involved with Law and Order and Social Justice.

  3. As a part of this unit and as a particular focus on incorporating technology into our schooling, my class was asked to complete a substantial class task. The task was to create a public service advertisement suitable for radio broadcast, using a program on our school laptops called ‘Audacity’.

  4. Audacity is a sound production system, with this technology and the guidance of Mr Kafataris, we utilised the technology to create our ads. The ads addressed various issues that, prior to this task, we had discussed and explored in class.

  5. The radio ads included many of the advertising techniques which we had also studied in a previous unit of work (AIDA-attention, interest, desire, action). Our ads utilised the impact which music, dialogue and sound effects can have on an audience. Our dialogue appeals to the intended audience’s senses of ethos, pathos and logos, which are their senses of ethics, empathy and logic.

  6. Firstly we wrote out our scripts. • After writing our scripts we recorded our own, friends’, families’ and even Mr Kafataris’ voices to convey the messages addressed in our scripts and to create our dialogues.

  7. We then added our recorded and downloaded sound effects by importing them into our projects. • This step was repeated when we imported the background music into our projects

  8. After all of this, the only thing left to do was adjust the timing and volume to ensure that our sound effects played on cue with our dialogue and that our music didn’t overpower the sound effects and dialogue by playing at the wrong times or too loudly.

  9. All of these steps assisted us in shaping the atmosphere of and adding to our ads’ overall persuasive tones and messages.
