  3. Where do you find us in the Olomouc Region? Visitor centre of the Pumped-Storage Power Station Dlouhé Stráně

  4. 3 Basic technical data Location: Kouty nad Desnou River: Divoká Desná Altitude of the generator room: 767,20 MASL Construction on the power station started: 1978 Date of commissioning: 1996 Energy used capacity: 2 580 MM cubic meters • Installed capacity: 2 x 325 MW • Head of power station: 534,3 m (the largest of a reversing turbine in Europe) • Type of turbine: Francis (reversing) • Turbine discharge (max): 68,5 cubic meters/sec • Effectivity of the pumped-storage cycle: 75,1 % • The elevated storage reservoir • spot height of the dam crest: 1 350 MASL • length of the dam crest: 1 742,5 MASL • total capacity: 2 720 MM cubic meters • max surface submerged: 15,4 ha • The lower reservoir • spot height of the dam crest: 824,7 MASL • length of the dam crestin the centre line: 306 m • total capacity: 3,405 MM cubic meters • max surface submerged: 16,13 ha

  5. Significance of a power station • power station works in quick start regime and by spotting the deviation of the energy system • it helps to optimize the operation of nuclear and coal-fired power plants Coal + Nuclear

  6. 5 It would have been refused by the public during the construction, it has later become one of the most touristic attractions in the Czech republic.

  7. History of the construction of the power station • 1978 – construction of the power station started • 1980‘s – then central bodies held up the project • 1985 – modernization of the project • 1996 – date of commissioning

  8. Environmental impact of the construction and operation of the power station • Environmental impact • entire technology is located underground • technology used with no negative side effects on environment • all service water is being purified • landscape intervention caused by the construction of the power station has had no negative impact on the surrounding ecosystem • recultivation which followed the construction incorporated the power station in the natural surroundings

  9. Further importance of the hydroelectric plant • - popular tourist spot • tourist routes and cycle paths • positive effects on the development of tourism in the Desná Valley • X • visit rate regulation due to the Protected landscape area of Jeseniky (need for close cooperation with the environmentalists) • cooperation with regional tourist development organizations and public administration

  10. Public visits start at the Visitor center Visit rate of the visitor centre: approx. 60 000 visitors per year

  11. And they continue to the Power Station „There is a machine unit placed deep in the underground of the mountain which rotates and produces the valuable electricity“.

  12. 11 Let‘s have a look in the generator room All technology is located 250 m underground = minimum impact on the environment

  13. The uper reservoir – significant tourist spot Altitude of 1 350 MASL – Beautiful scenery of main Jeseniky Mountains edge
