Holograms are used both for promotion and security. Any hologram that prevents counterfeiting or duplicity of products is called security hologram. A hologram is a product of lasers, not inks. It cannot be produced by the standard ink-based printing technologies like offset, rotogravure, flexography, etc. Only a hologram manufacturer can produce a security hologram.
Most duplicators scan or photocopy to duplicate a hologram sticker. Since there are no inks in the hologram, it is not possible to reproduce it by photocopying, scanning, or taking a photograph. Hence holograms have proved to be a strong weapon to fight to counterfeit.
Holograms are tamper-evident – once affixed at the desired place, any attempt to reuse the hologram sticker will result in its destruction. The dynamic and color-changing features of a hologram attract attention and is easy to identify and difficult to replicate. It is due to these reasons above that security hologram stickers are widely used to protect products and documents.
