Tobaccocultivationcoversapproximately0.45millionhectaresin thecountry.Indiaaccountsforroughly10%ofallthelandused for tobacco farming. It accounts for 9% of total tobacco products worldwide. The country's average tobacco crop production has been around800millionkg overthelastfive years.Flue-cured Virginia tobacco, Country tobacco, Burley tobacco, Bidi tobacco, Rusticatobacco,andHookahareallproducedinthecountry. Gujarat,AndhraPradesh,UttarPradesh,Karnataka,West Bengal,Telangana,andBihararethemajortobacco- producingstatesinIndia Gujarat,AndhraPradesh,and UttarPradesh accountforroughly 45%,20%,and15%oftotalproductioninthecountry, respectively.   3. INDIA'STOBACCO EXPORTTREND Indiaistheworld'ssecond-largesttobaccoexporter, trailingonlyBrazil. Itexportsvarioustobaccoandtobaccoproducts,including strip, stemmed cigar cheroots, smoking tobacco, and homogenized,flue-cured,andsun-curedtobacco. Indiaexported68,550tonnesofFCVtobaccoin2022-23 (untilAugust). Total exportsinAugust2022were15,224tonnes(worthUS$ 56.21million),a192.2%increaseovertheprevious year.During 2021-22,thetotalvalueofFCVtobaccoexportswasRs.2,858 crores(US$359million).Thecountryexported27,742tonnesin thesame year.

  4. Indiaistheonlycountrythatgrowstobaccoinbothseasons. It exports to over 115 countries around the world. The country primarily exports tobaccotoBelgium,thePhilippines,Egypt,theArabRepublic, Germany, Nepal,the United States, Turkey, Nepal, and many other countries around the world. Belgium is thelargesttobaccoimporteramongthesecountries,accountingforapproximately 17% oftotalIndianexports. IndiaexportedtobaccotoBelgiumworthUS$164.8millionin2021-22. Itrepresentsa7%increaseover2020-21.TheUAEisoneofIndia'stoptobacco importers,with2021-22importsworthUS$134.6million. During the same period, export value to Singapore and the United States was $34.3 million and $31.7million, respectively. Other tobacco export destinations for India includethe Netherlandsand Germany,whichimportedUS$25.7millionandUS$15.2 millionoftobaccofromIndia,respectively,in2021-22. IMPORTANTMARKETS
