The food and beverage industry in India has evolved dramatically over the past decades as a result of changing lifestyles, liberalization of small cities and entry of foreign brands in the Indian market. Since then, various Indian companies, as well as foreign multinationals, have tried to get a piece of the fast-growing beverage industry in India.

  2. State of the beverage industry: With a population of over 1 billion, India offers immense opportunities in the refreshing beverage category. The beverage industry in India contributes 8-9 per cent to the total FMCG market in India. And with the entry of major international beverage players over the last few decades, the market has become a competing ground to connect with Indian consumers.

Requirements of the Indian consumers: Nowadays, consumers can choose refreshing beverages of almost all flavours, colours, ingredients, health and nutritional values, which is pushing brands to look for new ways to remain relevant and exciting for consumers. To meet customer demand, beverage manufacturers need refreshing beverages with a gourmet appeal. So beverage manufacturers have to keep reinventing their approach and upgrade to new methods or products to engage their consumers.

  4. Challenges for the beverage industry in India: Despite numerous opportunities offered by the Indian Market, there are several challenges for the beverage industry in India. One of the biggest challenges for the Indian beverage industry is overtaking the rural markets, which is about 67 per cent of India’s total population. Reaching and connecting to rural consumers in a vast country like India also poses a significant challenge in distribution.

  5. Solution Provider in the Indian beverage market: Indian beverage market provides huge opportunities for both domestic and international companies. However, in recent years several domestic companies have also started to give a tough competition to the big established powerhouses. These domestic companies are empowered by beverage innovators that solve all their product needs, such as natural sourcing, authentic culinary processes, and an innovative approach to the science of taste.
