NUC 9 Pro Workstation Review: An Over-performer? Get more work done with the Intel NUC 9 Pro. While it’s not perfect, it comes very close. The new kit runs at peak performance without ever throttling. The NUC 9 Pro Workstation provides a sleek update to Intel’s classic Workstation series with its high- performing modular kit. Intel has set the bar high for iterations in the future, especially when you consider the i7-9850H processor with 6 cores and 12 threads. The CPU performance it offers is a generational leap over its predecessors. What makes this update so unique is the use of M.2 SSD and support for up to three internal drives. Lightning-fast storage isn’t going to be a hassle with the NUC 9 Pro. This workstation is as slim as any other compact computers but it is a powerful machine. It has the capacity to store data several times faster than the prior model, rendering projects in a fraction of a second and running intensive GPU operations including the latest video games. Since the Pro Workstation has evolved over the years, Intel’s fans have been excited with the inclusion of the i7-9850H chip in this model, a massive upgrade over the Core i5 series. The NUC 9 Pro came out in early 2020, which is probably why it often gets ignored by Intel. We had a refresh just a few years back with the NUC 8 series in 2018, which was several years in the making. It’s nice to see Intel push out such a big update, not to mention seeing the Windows 11 operating system on display in the NUC 9 Pro. Note that the operating system you get with the kit may vary based on where and when you bought the device. In terms of pricing, there is definitely more value for money here for a whopping 9 USB ports, 6 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Ports, and 2 Thunderbolt 3 Ports. It really has got a boost in terms of features. Overall, the NUC 9 Pro workstation is an impressive piece of kit, with Intel’s latest hardware and software combination taking center stage. It’s great to see Intel showcasing their i7-9850H in the workstation. In more ways than one, it continues to offer so much of what we appreciate about the NUC kit series. It has an attractive yet small form design, powerful components, and the ability to run power-intensive apps, along with the latest apps from 2020, making NUC 9 Pro genuinely exciting.
