  2. Is there any hope? Am I on an IPv6 enabled connection? • Try ipconfig, ifconfig commands • Look for “funny” IP addresses • Try the “web” version of the Internet2 Detective • What does it mean to be “IPv6” enabled? • LAN, WAN, tunneled (local machine, LAN, WAN?) Am I on a multicast enabled connection? • Try the “web” version of the Internet2 Detective • Try tuning into a “live” multicast stream • ConferenceXP: IPv6 Multicast “room” exists! • Find a friend to test with • Bigvideo, multicast, IPv6 working group mailing lists

What if it doesn’t work? • Test locally - ConfXP, DVTS • Be nice to your friends! • Run a sniffer at other locations • Ben T./ VoIP - flooded with IPv6 multicast • Let your tech support know! • Simplifies their life, invites their help • If ConfXP works “locally” • Find a “close” friend, a less close friend … • Work across your subnet, your campus • Test, test, test, and more testing

  4. “local” things to think about • Local machine - ipv6 stack enabled • Switches, switches, switches • Check for “flow” and for “bleeding” • Routers, upstream routers • Get your NOC involved • Introduce your NOC to Bill Owens • Introduce your self to Bill Cerveny • Test, test, test, and more testing

You need the right backbone • Abilene is IPv6 /Multicast enabled • Your NOC needs to work with their GigaPop • Gigapop will need to work with Abilene NOC • Did I mention - talk to Bill Owens? • Bring up the dbeacon software • http://artemis.av.it.pt/~hsantos/dbeacon/ • http://supervision-ipv6.renater.fr/public/m6bone/matrix • Finally, make sure to talk with Bill Owens

  6. When it works, it work! • Might need to point “your” router at a specific RP (ask Bill Owen!) • Might need to run a sniffer on your network to detect “leakage” • Might need to bribe your technical support people with lots of donuts • But … when it works, it works • (well, most of the time …)
