  2. GIS for Strategic Asset Management February 23rd, 2012 1:40 p.m. – 2:10 p.m. EST Cleveland Metroparks Sign Inventory Program Cleveland Metroparks has assembled a hybrid closed/open source GIS stack that includes ESRI solutions for the desktop environment with a completely Open Source server infrastructure providing web-based mapping and analysis. Projects in-progress include a comprehensive sign inventory, trail inventory, various natural infrastructure inventories, as well as a routing interface in the pipe-line for recreational use that will be adapted for incident response, trail planning, and other uses. A focus on Open Standards allows the system to be easily adapted and augmented; a focus on Open Source keeps software capital costs low, allows for sharing of the code with others, and allows the focus of resourcing to be in novel software development and customization.
