  3. Project Goals • Decrease print waste • Decrease campus print budget • Provide detailed print monitoring and tracking • Help students to make better-informed decisions about what they print

  4. Open Labs Stats - Fall 09 • GCC spent over $25,000 for paper and toner in the open labs (HT1, HT2, LMC) • In October 6456 students printed 348,017 printouts for an average of 54 pages per student • In one week, the equivalent of 18 reams of print waste was recovered in HT1 & HT2 Pits alone - that’s a total of $54 of wasted paper in one week

  5. System Functionality • Student sends print jobs to que • Students will use GCC ID card to release print jobs from a print station • Students are charged for only those print jobs they release • Charge stations will be used to add money • Change stations available in HT1 and LMC

  6. Decisions already made • IKON is the selected vendor • Consolidate support - system in use for copy services • Backend pieces already owned by GCC • Students will use ID cards not print cards • Cost of 10 cents per page B&W for students • Faculty/Staff print free in Labs • Change machines available in HT1 and LMC • Inkjet printing not included in initial rollout • Will keep the existing fleet of printers to save startup costs

  7. Challenges • Re encode all student ID cards • Service Desks in open labs • Print problems and Refunds • Immediate reprint of any job - no card credits • No cash refunds • Paper intense classes (options)

  8. Issues Needing Resolution • Charge monies to Card or to account? • Max dollar amount to charge? • Number and configuration of Print Release stations in Pit? • Color laser option for $1 per page? • Initial rollout consideration • Maximum Prints allowed in classrooms?

  9. Future of Pay for Print (Phase II) • Implement Pay for Print in other Open Labs at GCC/GCCN • Implement Employee Copy Center tracking for GCC main • New printer purchases will include a duplex option
