  2. Faculty and Staff Recreational Proposal By Terrence Brown & Erik Green

  3. Introduction The following is a proposal to establish recreational programs for the Faculty and Staff at Coppin State College. As students of the Coppin State Sports Management program, we have been given the opportunity by professor (Ruffin Bell) to come forward with a proposal to describe what type of recreational events need to be established for the faculty at Coppin State.

  4. Introduction Cont… • This proposal contains information on the need for more activities for Faculty and Staff members to participate in, the benefits of having these type of activities, and the process and resources required to have these programs put into effect.

  5. The need for more activities • Since the one year and a half that I have been attending Coppin State, there has only been one faculty program here on campus that most people can recall. This program consist of Basketball Intramurals. One program established over a year or every two years is not enough and the process of developing these programs needs to be sped up.

  6. Need for More Programs Cont… • The programs that we are looking to set up are Basketball, Volleyball, Flag football and Weight lifting competitions. Other Miscellaneous activities will be added based on the faculty and staff surveys that we receive. Setting up and running these programs shouldn’t be much of a problem; it is just a matter of setting up available hours of the gymnasium for these activities to occur.

  7. Benefits of having Faculty and Staff Activities • The benefit of having more Faculty programs will help out in various ways. By having the Staff active in activities, it will help to promote physical fitness. According to the American heart association and http://www.justmove.org/fitnessnews/healthf.cfm?Target=physactive.html physical (which is a web site) physical activity can contribute to the following:

  8. Benefits Cont… • Reduce your chance of heart attack • Strengthen your heart, lungs, bones and muscles • Give you more energy and strength • Help control your weight and blood pressure • Help you handle stress • Help you sleep better • Help you look good • Help you feel upbeat

  9. Benefits Cont… • In addition this will also give the students as well as the community a positive image of Coppin State; it will help to promote good sportsmanship along with Coppin Pride. If all goes well, Coppin State could also benefit off of these programs by charging audiences a convenient price to see these competitions.

  10. Resources Needed • The resources needed for setting up these projects are equipment, the use of the gymnasium in the Coppin Center, volunteers as officials, equipment crew, and the possibility of campus security. Here is how each resource needed will be dealt with unless otherwise. The equipment used in these activities can be arranged to be provided by Coppin State after going through and authorization process, the same goes for the gymnasium.

  11. Resources Cont… • Volunteers can be provided by the Coppin State Sports Management department for a classroom assignment. Others who wish to help out will be welcomed. Security will be provided by the college if needed.

  12. Closing • In closing, we would like to thank you for considering this project. we hope that you will approve my proposal and consider beginning this project as soon as possible. We are very excited and looking forward to having this proposal put into effect. Thank you and it has been a pleasure working with you.
