  2. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales Function Overview • Current total load for the entire vehicle • Total weight per tractor/trailer • Current load on all individual axles • Payload for the entire vehicle • Payload per Prime-Mover/Trailer • Alarm for overload on individual axles • Alarm for total weight on trailer • All weights is displayed in tones VDO - a Trademark of the Continental Corporation

  3. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales Axle load measurement Kimax 2 uses the linearity between air pressure and load of the single axles. By using two reference points for each axle (empty weight and weight at maximum load) and the currently measured air pressure. Kimax 2 calculates the current axle load with an accuracy of 2 % of the maximum load for each axle. VDO - a Trademark of the Continental Corporation

  12. SG sensor front axle – installation In order of getting the best Kimax for your specific vehicle, go to www.kimax.com select “Build-a-Kimax” under Order the now tab. Submit the form when you have entered your details and we return our best recommendations for your specific vehicle. In this example one steering front axle mechanical suspended and a double rear axle air suspended, our P/N 10140. VDO - a Trademark of the Continental Corporation

  13. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation Typically truck layout for P/N 10140 could be like the above diagrams

  14. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation Basic principle for measuring the front axle weight is displayed above. The weight of the vehicle is carried by the parabolic springs between the chassis and the front axle. Adding weight to the vehicle above the frontaxle, causes a tension or “compression” of the top surface of the front axle. This tension is sensed by the SG sensor we glue onto the top surface of the axle.

  15. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation In this images you see a typical front axle from a bus-chassis.

  16. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation The bus-chassis is comfortable, because of it is open without any build up body.

  17. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation The available space is more narrow on a commercial truck, the clearance between gearbox and front axle is normally high enough for the next page grinding procedure.

  18. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation First tool to use is normally a angle grinding machine equipped with a lamella disk Ø125 mm/Ø5”, grain size is typically 60 – 80 at the beginning and 80 - 100 at the end.

  19. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation Carefully grinding process until you get an even and smooth surface

  20. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation 80 x 130 mm blank surface, ready for final grinding with emery paper.

  21. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation Finally grinding by hand using first grain 120 at the end you use grain 240, especially the area where to glue the sensing sensor need to be blank and smooth.

  22. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation The sensor must be located in the middle of the axle, cable has to come out along the centreline of the axle.

  23. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation The sensing area of the sensor must be grinded by hand with emery paper 240 in order of removing fingerprints.

  24. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation The axle surface must be cleaned by cleaning solvent, a 1:1 mixture of Acetone and chemical clean 2-Peopanol. You must purchase these indigents local, as we can’t send it as air freight, since the 9. September 2001. it is really important to wipe any dust away from gluing area on both axle and SG sensor, in order of getting a reliable attachment.

  25. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation You distribute one drip of Z70 rapid glue on the sensor area of the sensor and put it in position and press it onto the axle for at least 1 min with your fingers without moving the sensor.

  26. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation When the sensor is glued with the rapid glue, you can seal the wires by using a litle of the Black Tunap. When you connect the sensor to the cable harness you can test the function of the sensor by entering the OAA menu. One person about 100 kg increase the OAA value by 0,2 when you enter the cabin from ground.

  27. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation When the sensor is working properly, time is coming for covering the sensor. Put some of the black Tunap onto the stainless steel cover.

  28. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation The stainless steel cover is placed on top of the sensor and pressed on to the axle.

  29. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation The cover is tied down to the axle by using some long cable strips. The black glue has to cure overnight.

  30. Kimax 2 On-Board Scales SG sensor front axle – installation When the black glue is cured , the cavity between the cover and the axle must be filled completely by injecting the gray Tunap, until it comes out of the venting holes in the cover. The holes has to be topped one after one. You must continue injecting until the grey stuff come up to the venting hole of the cable. All cables has to be tied down to the axle and routed up to the chassis frame
