Avoidance • What is avoidance? In psychology, avoidance coping, or escape coping, is a maladaptive coping mechanism characterized by the effort to avoid dealing with a stressor(Wikipedia,2013).
Forinstance, if a personstopsgoingout in restaurantsbecause of a fear of not beinglet in, theeffect is thesame as with an actualsystematicchain of discrimination: theperson has effectivelybeenexcludedfromtheenjoyment of theseservicesjob. • So, exclusion from society as one of the chief aims of discrimination has been achieved(IP, 2011).
Denial of Discrimination • Denial, in ordinary English usage, is asserting that a statement or allegation is not true. The same word, and also abnegation, is used for a psychological defense mechanism postulated by Sigmund Freud, in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence(Wikipedia, 2013).
