  16. Junior Year is ESSENTIAL to the college process!! • This is a great time for juniors to begin thinking about what they want out of the college process. • Encourage them to begin researching colleges as they dream. • Visiting colleges as a junior is extremely important to the process of determining which schools/types of schools feel like a good fit.

  17. AHS College Visit Policy • Juniors are allowed a college visit during Mission Week:  • Thursday, February 27th, 2020 • Consider Friday, February 28th • Set up visit in early January  • Seniors have one college day visit option: • One excused college visit of her choice as long as school policy is followed. • Both juniors and seniors are encouraged to use AHS scheduled days off to visit colleges.  Spring break is a great time!

  18. Four Important Goals for Juniors • Strive for the best possible grades. • Choose an appropriately challenging senior course load. • Visit colleges/universities before senior year. • Have two standardized test scores (ACT/SAT) by the end of junior year. • ACT is a graduation requirement. • Those interested in Governor’s Scholars should take the September 14th or October 26th ACT and/or the October 5th SAT.

  19. MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR

  20. Service Learning • Mrs. Katelyn Moore Katelyn.moore@ahsrockets.org 458-9551 Ext. 2597 • Mrs. Moore visited classes last semester of Sophomore year and will visit this semester • Students submit form electronically on Sharepoint • Syllabus has list of suggested agencies that fit the CST guidelines.  • If doing service at agency not listed must receive approval through email from Mrs. Moore before beginning service.

  21. Basic Policies • Student’s 15 hours must be completed at one agency and focus on one social justice issue • Students must work directly with people affected by the issue • Service hours must be turned in on x2Vol and verified by agency representative • Verification is student’s responsibility  • Correct email is extremely important • Verification cannot be a parent or relative even if they work at the agency

  22. Grading & Late Policies Each of the 15 hours is worth ten points (150 points total) and is counted in the major category of the theology grade. Possible reasons penalties are received in CST course: • Perform Service without a commitment form on file  • Hours done on time but turned in late or not verified on time •  Hours done after the deadline

  23. Mission Week • JUNIORS are involved with on-campus mission week activities this year. • SENIORS have choices regarding how they want to experience mission week.  Choices for your daughters next year will include: • 1. Attending Mission Week on-campus as before. • 2. Attending their senior retreat during this time. • 3. Engaging with ARISE (Assumption Rocket Immersion Service Experience) trips: • ARISE includes mission trips that are local, regional, national, and international. • Your daughter will hear about these options this Spring to help her begin discernment around her mission week experience for her senior year.

  24. Why are we alerting you now? • Students who discern a call to engage in an off-campus ARISE Mission Trip will need to be prepared for the cost involved.  • Parents/Guardians being informed now will enhance discussions with daughters about their options and with decision-making.  • Questions about ARISE Mission Trips should be directed by phone or email to Dr. Lisa Wieland in the Campus Ministry Office. • Important to know: ARISE opportunities are assessed each year and trips determined on an annual basis with enough space for all seniors who wish to participate to be part of a trip experience.

  25. Retreat – your support and encouragement make a difference! Junior Retreat provides your daughter with important time for self-reflection and community engagement. Registrations being accepted now!

  26. Accountability and Paying Attention • Social Media • Other Issues • Excused absence requests in advance to attendance@ahsrockets.org
