How does the author’s choice of words make the passage more enjoyable to read? “Dogs are not allowed in the Herman W. Block Memorial Library.” “He’s a dog who goes to church.” …he came in and lay down with a “huummmppff” and a sign, right at Miss Franny’s feet. Winn-Dixie wagged his tail back and forth and snuffled his nose on her little old-lady feet.
August Henry Cunningham was a book monster. He devoured books at breakfast. He devoured books at lunch. August Henry Cunningham’s mouth dropped open. Stunned, he slumped down onto t a nearby bench. She felt sorry for the sad, bookless little boy. The writer created vivid descriptions of the character’s actions by choosing interesting words such as stunned and bookless to describe the character and devoured and slumped to describe his actions.

Now, write a paragraph about something unusual that the character does.
