  4. Materials Needed • 3 inch binder (used for all subjects) or an individual binder for social studies ONLY • 1 section in binder designated for social studies • Colored pencils • Pencils

  5. Grading SystemPoint system • Assignments weighted by points possible • Students final grade is calculated by: Total points earned X 100 Total points possible

  6. Social studies Grades Students can earn points from the following assignments: • Homework • Classwork • Quizzes • Tests • Projects

  7. Homework • Homework can be expected 2-3 times a week • Students should be reviewing concepts discussed in class 10-15 minutes per night • Late homework-half credit • More than 1 day late-no credit

  8. Social studies Overview • Social Studies classes in 6th grade are not leveled. • We begin the year with the 5 Themes of Geography. • This is followed by the study of ancient civilizations incorporating the 5 Themes. • Curriculum is based on state standards. • The textbook is online and students will be given access information at a later date.

  9. Rotation of Social Studies • Beginning 2nd marking period, students will be rotating to different teachers on our team for mini lessons on ancient cultures. • More information about this rotation will be coming home in the near future.
