  1. Traffic Information ServiceReference: AIM 4-5-6 What is TIS? TIS provides aircraft with Mode S transponders traffic advisories within certain ATC Radar coverage areas via ATC radar scan of your aircraft (typically every 5 seconds). Equipment Requirements: In order to receive TIS information, your aircraft must be equipped with a Mode S transponder. TIS Coverage: See Figures on right. Limitations: Traffic targets will only be displayed for aircraft that have an operating Mode A, C or S transponder. Up to 8 targets can be displayed. Objective of TIS: To aid in the See and Avoid concept, not to replace it!
