  2. Finding an Item • Enter search term in the search box • For the best matches, be specific in your search term

  4. Search Results • Be prepared to search through many possibilities • To narrow down your search you can choose a specific category • If you have a specific product or type of product in mind you can conduct an advanced search

  5. Search Titles and Descriptions • If you select this box, your results will include items with the search term in the title and the description

  6. Browsing • There are many “browse” categories on the front page

  7. Browsing • When one category is chosen, a page of subsequent subcategories are listed • When a subcategory is selected, a list of products are shown • You can either browse these products, or continue to refine your search, using the side bar

  8. Logging in • When you are ready to place your bid, click the “Place Bid” icon • You will be asked to log in using your eBay username and password

  9. Placing a Bid Enter your bid amount. • Keep in mind the bid criteria • (new bid amount must be $0.60 above current bid price) • Confirm the bid amount, then press “continue” to enter your bid

  10. Bidding Results • If you have outbid the other bidders, the screen will read: • “You are the current highest bidder” • If you have been outbid, the screen will read: • “You have been outbid” • You should try placing a new, higher bid

Retracting a Bid • Click on the “services” icon on the eBay homepage • Scroll down to the “Bidding and Buying Services” section • Click on “Retracting Your Bid” • Enter in your eBay username and password • Enter in the item number and the original bid amount submitted • A bid may not be retracted if the auction closes within 24 hours

After Bidding • Checking status • Click on “My eBay”, logging in if necessary. • Status of all items (in progress and completed) appears. • Communicating with seller • From “My eBay”, find item in question. • Under “Action”, click the menu. • Locate “Contact Seller”. • Enter your query in the resulting email form.

  13. After Winning • Communicating with seller • Use the same procedure as before to open the email form. • Confirm details with the seller such as payment method, shipping address, etc. • Payment • Payment may be arranged personally (check, money order, etc.), but most sellers accept PayPal. • To pay with PayPal, use the “Action” menu for your item in “My eBay”.
