Using eco bags as an alternative to plastic bags in supermarkets Reem alajaji
Why I picked this topic for my research • Saudis tend to overuse plastic bags in supermarkets. • Foreigners are aware of the harms of plastic bags so they use eco bags instead. It is estimated that our annual global plastic consumption worldwide is 290 million tons!
Thesis statement Using eco bags, instead of plastic bags, in supermarkets is beneficial for the environment, economy, and the individual.
environment • Protecting marine life. • Decreasing the amount of air pollution • keeping land and agriculture healthy.
economy • Help the supermarket save money • Help the individualsave money
The individual • Going to make a person more responsible towards other environmental issues • Going to make a person more aware of his/her own health
How I tied in my product to my research topic • My product was to design eco bags and posters, and distribute them in supermarkets. This helped spread awareness about the harms of plastic bags and advantaged of eco bags.
My “stretch” in doing this particular product I learned many skills such as: • Verbal communication with the supermarket managers • Design skills when designing my blog and eco bag • Technical skills when using new programs to create the flyers
The role my mentor played in the product My mentor helped me in: • picking the right bag according to the material, size, and shape. • Finding a place to print my design on the eco bag with reasonable prices • Choosing interesting and attention-grabbing facts to use for the flyers
challenges • I had challenges in finding a supermarket that will promote the use of the eco bags and flyers.
