Il Poggione is one of the most highly regarded Brunello di Montalcino producers with a rich history and reputation for stylistic consistency.

  • Since 1890, the Franceschi family has helped develop standards for the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino region as a founding member of the Brunello Consortium.
  • Today, the winery continues its winemaking philosophy: To create wines of impeccable quality and style, enhanced by the use of organic substances and all-natural products.
  • The winery's vineyards lie at one of the highest elevations in the entire appellation, ideal for the production of long-lived Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello). All of its wines are made using estate-grown fruit.

Variety:

100% Sangiovese

Vineyards:

Estate vineyards in Sant’ Angelo in Colle in the Montalcino DOCG zone. Southern exposed hillside vineyards are at

least 25 years old at elevations of 150 - 450 meters.

Fermentation:

Traditional red wine fermentation; 14 days including maceration.

Aging:

36 months in Allier oak barrels (size of 30hl and 50hl). Minimum of 12 months bottle aging.
