  1. Overall Comments • Lots of progress since last ACE meeting • CTF3 construction • Structure demonstrations I agree • CDR organization • Collaboration development • Group is on track to show the potential of the high-gradient TBA concept by 2010 • Excellent progress on overall design concept • World-wide interest in this effort • Need to understand what can and cannot be completed given the available resources

  2. Overall Comments • What is needed to demonstrate feasibility • Two-beam accelerator demonstration • This is CTF3 • High gradient rf structures • Strong program I agree • Need to show a solid basis for design, not necessarily exact design parameters • High gradient operation OK • HOM damping OK • Some path to structure alignment Ideas have never been presented to the ACE • Concept for other LC subsystems • Can use scaling from other designs • Focus on CLIC specific issues (low emittance; drive beam) • Scale of the CLIC cost; not necessarily a full cost estimate

  3. CLIC Parameters (2) • Specified a modified structure for 500 GeV parameters • Looser tolerances no and lower gradient • 150 degree phase advance; larger a/lambda • How does this fit into the structure development program? • What is necessary (if anything) to have confidence in this structure? Showing that waveguide damping is OK for gradient plus scaling enough for the moment. • Relaxed 500 GeV parameters important for feasibility • Think about how to fold into CDR

  4. CLIC Collaborations • Developing strong collaborations around the world • CTF3 collaboration • CERN / KEK / SLAC high gradient collaboration Yes, plus others like CEA, HIP, Cockcroft, Greifswald, Ukraine, Uppsala, U. of Bochum, CEIMAT, Pakistan, FERMILAB? • Growing CLIC - ILC GDE collaboration • Other CLIC design collaborations: • Darsebury; Jlab, … • Continue to work with collaborators and grow collaborations • Overall effort needs to grow and collaborators provide a path • Requires careful management to maintain focus Top priority • Mobilize the CTF3 collaboration for increased participation in operating the test facility

  5. High Gradient Structure Design • Working with empirical data supported by quasi-theoretical model to design structures Yes!!!! • Very good approach; adding new experimental data to directly support these models • Growing simulation effort (outside of CERN) good addition • Glad that structure design has settled on CLIC-G • Large international effort to demonstrate high-gradient performance • Coordinated effort is working very well • Success on 2010 timescale seems likely although important to define ‘success’ • Do not think need to develop full structure with all features Point taken – will distinguish feasibility and performance issues

  6. T18 Testing Results Breakdown events versus position along length

  7. Hour long question session was very important for clarification of testing program. Gradient Demonstrations • Demonstration of CLIC-VG1 (T18) is very important • Multi-pronged approach to demonstrate CLIC-G, HOM damping, scaling models (C10 structures) and fabrication • Committee agrees that this is an efficient approach • Focused on CLIC-VG1 for initial gradient, HOM, and fabrication is good • Useful to have many supporting tests – not just a single success • Urge completing tests of many VG1 structure to form solid basis for structure design • Construction and testing of CLIC-G (T24) in 2009 • Clearly important to validate scaling (along with C10’s) • Able to redirect program in mid-2009 if difficulties • Contingency planning is important and has been started

  8. PETS • Very impressed with recent developments • Impressive fabrication and cold-tests I agree • Looking forward to imminent rf and beam tests us too… • Glad to see increased simulation effort for PETS wakefields and beam dynamics • System is critical to TBA concept and requires appropriate support Resources near 50/50 and we always try to attract collaborators to PETS. • Think about beam-dynamics demonstrations TBL • What can be measured at CTF3? • Are HOM’s possible to measure with beam? • What upgrades are necessary to fully understand PETS?
