  1. WHAT NOT TO DO…… …in a Powerpoint presentation Or Make sure that every one can get the information that you wish to convey in a meaningful and also not get bored senseless!

  2. COLOUR • Choice of colour is important!

  3. Can you easily read the text?

  4. Is the background too bright?

  5. Is it too busy?

  6. FONT • Choose the type of font wisely • Simple is often best • What size of text is appropriate so that the reader can get all of the information from the screen without going blind or becoming insane? • Don’t go too fancy. • Script is often hard to read. • Big is not always best

  7. Animated Text • Sometimes it is a good idea to bring your text up a bit at a time. • Sometimes it isn’t. • I hate typewriters, especially when they go on and on and you never get to the end of what is going to go on the screen. And then you think you have got to the end and that ^%$^@*&^$@ typewriter just keeps on going for ever and ever and ever. • And then the next paragraph comes and it’s still a typewriter!

  8. There are a number of techniques available. You may wish to try them out. The most important thing is that it doesn’t take to long getting on to the screen. If it does then it will eat up your presentation time and the audience – and the marker - will get bored. Animated Text

  9. It is really awful if you have to sit and read a whole lot of text that just keeps on going. You tend to lose the plot. It could be repeating itself but you don’t know and let’s face it you don’t really care, because you turned off after reading the first line. It’s not as if anything hidden down here in the middle of a wad of text is going to be important anyway, otherwise they might have dot pointed the important bits, don’t you think? Then the next paragraph comes up and at this point care factor is way less than zero. You can’t even read this all properly, and the fish are more exciting. The fish are more exciting. 16. Reading from your Powerpoint • Please do not turn around and read straight from the screen. • Most people at MHS can read. • Don’t read every word that is being shown – it get’s boring. • They can’t hear if you face the screen. • And you didn’t brush the back of your hair this morning.

  17. SPELLING • Plaes chick yr spilling. It’s awefull having to reed someine ilses tipos. • Sometimes even the spell chick won’t help ewe because the words that dint mock cents are steal reel words. • Asoeihga asdiugajdgf fsdfg – just cos!

  18. In conclusion... Have fun …… …….but…… Don’t waste too much time being fancy.

  19. AND DON’T FORGET • The BIBLIOGRAPHY • Include research from the web • I hate howstuffworks.com – bear this in mind.
