Transpiration. Transpiration. Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from the leaves of plants through evaporation. This results in the movement of water (carrying dissolved minerals and salts etc) from the roots to the leaves through the xylem. Transpiration (and water uptake).

  2. Transpiration Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from the leaves of plants through evaporation. This results in the movement of water (carrying dissolved minerals and salts etc) from the roots to the leaves through the xylem.

  3. Transpiration (and water uptake) • Water is taken in through roots and takes dissolved minerals from the soil up to the leaves through Xylem.

  4. Transpiration (and water loss) • Water is lost through stomates in the leaf • This process of water uptake and water loss is continually occurring to maintain a balance. • The process of water travelling through the plant from root to leaf is called the transpiration stream
