DRAW IMPLICATIONS from your analysis for contemporary social work practice • BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?! • DESCRIBE a historical issue that is important to the social work profession • ANALYZE this issue in terms of enduring tensions in the profession

  3. Introduction • Will there be limitations to your paper? Tell me! • Summarize your topic in ½ to 1 page • What is your topic? • How/Why is it relevant to social work practice? • Give me a map of your paper – thesis statement

  4. Describe – the History Section • Being able to clearly describe the history will set you up for the analysis section • This is the largest section of your paper! • Tell a story of your issue • Would someone unfamiliar with your topic be able to understand the entirety of this paper with the description you provided?

  5. Analysis – the Tensions/Intersections • This is where the tensions/intersections should be discussed • What is a “tension”? • “Intersection” • You will need your critical thinking cap on to critically analyze your topic with the tension/intersection that you choose • Building off of previous sections • Examples - Topics from audience

  6. Implications • Build off of previous section! • What does social justice look like in relation to this topic? • What does this mean for current social work practice? • What laws or actions have taken place since? • What does this say about social work as a profession? • How will this history impact your social work practice?
