  2. Objective-The focus of research is the processes involved in developing,implementing, and evaluating language programs. Second and foreign language teaching is one of the world's largest educational enterprises and millions of children and adults worldwide devote large amounts of time and effort to the task of mastering a new language.

  3. Definition –Curriculum development is planned, purposeful, progressive and systematic process to create positive improvements in the educational system.Everytime there are changes or developments happening around the world. There is a need to update them to address the society’s needs. ( as now we have new plan for the vision 2030 to meet the new challenges.)

  5. Importance of Curriculum Development-Curriculum development has a broad scope because it is not only about the school or university, and the teachers. It is about the development of society in general.Curriculum development plays a vital role in improving the economy of a country. If universities have curriculum programs that are innovative and in demand in the local or global markets. A higher number of enrollees would mean income on the part of the universities. It can also be used in funding research and development endeavors, putting school facilities, libraries and laboratories.

Language curriculum development deals with the following questions--What procedures can be used to determine the content of a language program?-What are learner’s needs?- How can learner’s need be determined?- What contextual factors need to be considered in planning a language program?- Nature of aims and objectives in teaching and how can these be developed?

  7. Needs Analysis-One of the basic assumptions of curriculum development is that a sound educational program based on an analysis of learner’s needs.

  8. Needs analysis was introduced into language teaching through the ESP movement.The goal of needs analysis is to collect information that can be used to develop goals and content of language course.

  9. Planning goals and learning outcomes-What kind of English?At what level of proficiency?And for what purpose?Needs analysis seeks to provide answers to these questions and situation analysis seeks to identify the role of contextaul factors in implementing curriculum change.

  10. Leading the Curriculum/Program Development ProcessPeople are generally motivated to pursue specific goals-The use of goals in teaching improves the effectiveness of teaching and learningA program will be effective to the extent that its goals are sound and clearly described.

  11. Providing for effective teachingQuality teaching is achieved through creating context and work environments.What are the university’s goals and mission?What is the university’s management style?

  12. Role and design of instructional material-Teaching materials are the key components in most language classrooms. They may take the form of-Printed materials-Non print materails-Both- print and non- print material- magazines, newspaper, TV materials also play a role in the curriculum.

Approaches to EvaluationThis include--Is the curriculum achieving its goal?-What is happening in classrooms and where it is being implemented?-Are those affected by the curriculum( e.g. teachers, administrators, students, parents, employers) satisfied with the curriculum?-Have those involved in developing and teaching a language course done a satisfactory job?-Does the curriculum compare favourably with others of its kinds?

Subject curriculum is the most used and accepted Curriculum.Teacher curriculum-Teacher participate in a variety of curriculum activities, implementers, adaptors, developers, researchers.Learner centered curriculum give importance to individual development. It gives freedom to develop naturally.Activity based curriculum also called project curriculum.Integrated curriculum- Focuses on lifelong learning, higher level thinking
