Student Reflection Internship is like a diamond, in that it is multifaceted; it is also like a roller coaster with its highs and lows. Allowing the stages to happen allows the intern to learn and to have positive learning experiences.
The Developmental Stage Model Stage 1: Anticipation Stage 2: Disillusionment Stage 3: Confrontation Stage 4: Competence Stage 5: Culmination
Reflection Many of us seem to have a lot of self-doubt about our capacities and what is manageable for us. It would seem that after all the required academics we would not have these feelings, but apparently not.
Anticipation Stage Associated Concerns • Positive Expectations • Anxieties Self: role, appropriate disclosure self in authority role Supervisor: supervisory style, expectations of disclosure, perception and acceptance, assessment
Coworkers: organizational structure, standards of behavior, acceptance Field Site: philosophy, norms, values, workload, hiring potential Clients: acceptance and perception needs and presenting problems Life Context: responsibilities, support system
