Scope and Mission of the George A. Smathers Libraries’ Latin American Collection • 1930s President John J. Tigert creates the Institute for Inter-American Affairs at the University of Florida (UF). • 1948 Farmington Plan • 1951The Farmington Plan assigned UF as the repository for Caribbean material. • 2007 Mission of the George A. Smathers Libraries: to support the needs of faculty, students, and the rest of the University of Florida community.
