  2. To solve a linear equation. Simplify both sides. Isolate the variable terms from the constants. Eliminate the coefficients of the variable term. 2(5x + 4) = 6x + 4

  3. Solve 4(x – 5) = 4x - 20 6(x – 4) = 3(2x + 5) 7x + 4(3 – 2x) = 5 + 3(x + 8)
