  2. What is AIMS DPA? Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards Dual Purpose Assessment (AIMS DPA) is a combination of two separate tests.

AIMS vs. TerraNova • AIMS, which measures how well you know the reading, writing, and mathematics content that all Arizona students in your grade level are expected to know and be able to do. • TerraNova, which compares your performance in reading, language arts, and mathematics to the performance of other students in your grade level nationwide.

  5. AIMS includes • multiple-choice questions in reading and mathematics and one extended writing response. • The TerraNova test questions • are all multiple-choice questions. They make up a small portion of the reading and mathematics sections of the • AIMS DPA test

  6. Who has to take AIMS DPA? All students in Grades 3 through 8 are required to participate in AIMS DPA testing in the spring, usually in April.

  7. State Tutoring The State Tutoring Program is designed to provide academic tutoring in reading, writing, and mathematics in order to improve student academic performance.

  8. Who Qualifies for State Tutoring? • Eligibility and Tutoring Dates for the fall 08 round • Juniors and seniors who had not passed AIMS in order to graduate 8/11/08- 11/21/08 OR • Juniors and seniors who had not passed AIMS in order to graduate 8/11/08- 11/21/08

  9. Who Qualifies for State Tutoring? Students attending Underperforming/ Failing schools per 07-08 AZ LEARNS label

Who Qualifies for State Tutoring? • Eligibility and Tutoring Dates for the spring 09 round of tutoring • Freshmen and sophomores who did not pass 8th grade AIMS, juniors and seniors who had yet to pass high school AIMS in order to graduate OR • Students attending Underperforming/ Failing schools per 07-08 AZ LEARNS label

  11. Who Qualifies for State Tutoring? Dates for both groups of eligible students 01/05/09- 04/13/09 The summer 2009 round will be decided in the future depending on available funds.

  12. Tips for Success • Attend school everyday! You miss out if you are not there. • Ask your teacher for help if you do not understand your schoolwork. There is no such thing as a silly question! • Pay attention in class and always do your best. • Do your homework – everyone needs PRACTICE in order to get better.

  13. What Should Your Child Do to Prepare • Take practice test • Ask your child’s teacher to identify areas your child may need to work on. • Review areas that your child has difficulties
