Robotics & Mechatronic Systems • Humanoid Robotics & Human-Robot Interaction • Research Staff: Giorgio Metta, Giulio Sandini • Some projects (EU-funding) • RobotCub, development of a complete humanoid mechatronic platform (53 dof) • One of the goals of RobotCub is to produce a fully documented design employing industrial standards, and to facilitate duplication by distributing the drawings and source files as GPL (open source). 10 robots will be built. • Neurobotics, development of human-robot cooperation/interaction • Within the goal of creating intelligent prosthetic devices, this project aims at developing teleoperation and prediction of the user’s intentions by machine learning methods (the robot learn and the user learns too). The typical scenario is that of controlling a robotic manipulator to grasp objects. • Contact, manipulation and speech • Study the link between the development of manipulation and language.
