  1. Reasons Why Technology is good for Education Today’s learners are very different from those that our educational system was designed for. With advancement in technology, classrooms are being remodeled to fit the evolving needs of the modern student. Many higher education institutions are substituting traditional resources with educational technologies in an attempt to keep up with their digital learning population. Below we look at reasons why students need technology in the classroom environment and how it can impact engagement. 1.Students are obsessed with Technology: Students love using new technologies in the classroom. The interest of students in technology allows teachers to vary activities of the day and engage students. Students spend hours using smartphones, and other technologies like laptop, tablets and television when they get home from school--why not channelize their learning through these devices. 2.Creates a More Engaged Environment: You may think technology is just a distraction, but it can help encourage active participation in your classroom. Using devices like a computer, tablet, or other type of technology in your classroom can help turn traditionally dull subjects into interactive and fun activities. 3.Improves Collaboration: Teachers have observed an increased frequency of students helping each other when they’re using technology in the classroom. Many technology-based tasks involve other aspects, and this leads to situations where students need to seek help from their peers or the teacher.‡ Additionally, when students are assigned to small groups, the students who are more technologically advanced can assist their inexperienced peers. 4.Incorporates Different Learning Styles: Each child in your classroom is different, and it can be challenging to adjust your learning plan to fit every student. Fortunately, technology in education can help you modify your lessons. For example, Ryan Greene, an MS in Instructional Design and Technology graduate, chose online learning to earn his degree at Walden, and now applies his knowledge on integrating technology to help improve his classroom. 5.Access information more easily: Technology makes it easier for students to find information quickly and accurately. Search engines and e-books are replacing traditional textbooks. Instead of personal tutors, students can get one-on-one help through educational videos - anytime and anywhere.

  2. Thus, integrating technology in a classroom is a powerful way to promote and extend learning, and the payoff from using it is big. The key is finding ways to employ technology without taking time away from your core subjects.
