  5. Oral Language in the Writing Where do you see Oral Language fitting within awriting session? What opportunities are provided?

OL embedded within a writing lesson Spelling -Phonological & Phonemic awareness -Self-Talk -Vocabulary Writing content -Vocabulary • Good writers analyze their use of language and choice of words and consider how it impacts and influences the reader. • Good writers use figurative, colourful and juicy language to have an impact on the reader- to create emotion or to create a picture.

  7. Writing content Story Grammar - “Good writers can identify and can articulate what makes a narrative” 
 “Good writers understand the structures and features of the narrative, to cater for their audience and purpose most effectively.”

  8. Complex & Longer Sentences Good writers look at their choice of words and try to make them ‘juicier’ to have a greater impact and create more interest.
 Good writers analyse their sentences and how they have structured them and ask themselves if their choice is appropriate or could be improved by changing the sentence length or how the words are placed in the sentence.

(Whole class or Small group) •Composing Revising Publishing •Teacher and students collaborate to construct the text, discussing and negotiating topics, ideas and word choices •Teacher holds the pen! Make connections between oral and written language. What are the Oral Language opportunities ?

How do we support the reluctant writer? • Colourful Semantics to enhance Vocabulary/sentence structure • Ipad apps • writer's notebook - planting a seed • Alternatives/options to writing for different social purposes. eg; recounts - postcards, holiday brochure, letter. Procedure - games instructions. script writing - comic strip/strip design.
