  2. BACKGROUND“The USAPI Health Leadership Council was created to respond to the non-communicable disease (NCD) health emergency impacting all of the US Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI). As necessary, the Council will accommodate possible future change in priorities, recognizing that the Council will initially focus on NCD’s, but that it may be appropriate for the focus to shift or expand over time as progress is made and other priorities emerge.”

  7. What “NEW” dynamics does the Council have to offer? Takes away the “Silos” from a Regional Level Allows us to address the emerging health issue from a comprehensive and holistic approach Serves as a vehicle to reach ALL partners and have a collaborative voice in addressing the emerging issue Opportunity for direct link or access to partners Mentoring amongst the partners Provides Regional Support to strengthen each coalition and association Addresses Regional Issues & mobilization more efficiently & effectively

  8. VISION “A decrease in health disparities corresponding with an increase in health protection and prevention to ensure healthier Pacific lifestyles.” MISSION “To mobilize a regional response to promote a healthier Pacific lifestyles.”

  9. GOAL Provide a mobilization framework to support each council member in implementing regional activities that relate to emerging health issues within the USAPI, including but not limited to: Policy Surveillance Communication Core Competencies / Standards

  10. Technical Working Groups (TWG) est. Communications TWG • Review & Make Recommendations on NCD Road Map • Review & Identify resources to est. website & List-Serve • Strengthen communications with Secretariats • Education & Work with other Regional Coalitions to participate in the HLC • Work with PIHOA Secretariat & other Partners to schedule & establish at a minimum Quarterly Conference Calls Core Competencies TWG • Identify Regional Gaps / Needs with Partners • Review & Make Recommend. on Chronic Care Model • Review & Make Recommend. on Promotion, Prevention and Screening (Palliative, etc.) Surveillance TWG • Recommendations have been sent back to Partner’s Assoc. Policy TWG
