  1. 望遠鏡の運用状況 友野大悟 <tomono at subaru.naoj.org>

  2. CAUTION Telescope is becoming unstable

  3. Agenda • Unstable operation due to • Age of mechanics and electronics • Increased work load for new instruments • What to expect in coming years • Modification of telescope in summer 2010 • Commissioning of HSC in summer 2011 • Replacement for the space of AO36?

  4. Old mechanisms and electronics • Troubles on POpt AGSH Probe X axis • Problem on acquisition of star on NsIR AG • Image rotator? • Pointing error due to azimuth rail? • Instability of Time Code Generator • Old hardware for TWSs • etc

  5. Work load from STN3 • Less reliable connection from home for night support • Change of URLs • .sum.naoj.org • .subaru.nao.ac.jp • @subaru.naoj.org • Lost documents • Transferring data from STARS

  6. Work load from HSC • Unexpected increase of work load from around June 2008 • Detailed technical questions to overcome limits in weight, size, and cost • Required to manage tasks that will be done by engineers in Hilo and Mitaka, with coordinating with those done by the contractor

  7. What to expect in FY2009-2011 • Modification of telescope in summer 2010 • a couple of months of down time • Commissioning of HSC in summer 2011 • a few months of down time • Schedule and work items are still under study • Earlier work on top unit exchanger?

  8. What to expect in FY2009-2011 • Replacement for the space of AO36? • Electronics and optics for AO36 will be removed from the telescope in a couple of years • The AO layer above Cassegrain focus is a good place for e.g. • Better AG • Any suggestions for replacement subsystems are welcome!

  9. Summary - our apologize, but ... • Please expect more down time in the coming years despite the hard working engineers and technicians due to • Troubles • Longer lead time from additional work loads • Work items in coming years are to be studied • Ideas to replace AO36 are welcome
