  1. Movement Vocabulary Use it or lose it….

  2. Naturalistic Movement • Realistic movement

  3. Body Language • Messages given by the position or movement of the body.

  4. Facial Expression • A look which lets us know how someone feels.

  5. Gesture • A movement of the hand or arm which communicates a message or emotion.

  6. Eye Contact • How we look into someone elses eyes, or messages given by not looking.

  7. Posture • The position of the body, how it is held.

  8. Use of Space • Amount and quality of movement in the space to express mood or personality.

  9. Stylised Movement • Expresses ideas in an abstract and creative way.

  10. Mime • Creates an illusion of reality. • Slow • Precise • Exaggerated • Clear • Simple

  11. Dance Drama • A drama presented through dance moves

  12. Mask work • Dramas created when all or part of face is covered.

  13. Balance • Keeping an even distribution of weight.

  14. Speed • How slowly or quickly you move – includes stillness.

  15. Timing • Moving or pausing at exactly the right moment.

  16. Positioning • Where you are in relation to others AND staging.

  17. Use of Levels • Low, medium or high body positions.

  18. Use of Space • Like Naturalistic definition, but with freedom to exaggerate positions and moves.

  19. Rhythm • Movement which follows a pattern or beat.

  20. Stance • Attitude or position of the body.

  21. Use of Direction • Ways we can move – up, down, side to side, forwards and backwards.
