  14. Parsha • We’re going to read… • Torah… Gen. 25: 1-18 • Haftarah… I Kings: 1-31 • Brit Hadasha… Matt.

  15. Bereshith 25: 1-18 • KJV Genesis 25:1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. • 2 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. • 3 And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. • 4 And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah. • 5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac. • 6 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country. • 7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years. • 8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

  16. Bereshith 25: 1-18 • 9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; • 10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife. • 11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi. • 12 Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham: • 13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

  17. Bereshith 25: 1-18 • 14 And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, • 15 Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: • 16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations. • 17 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people. • 18 And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren.

  18. Achad Melachim 1: 1-31 • KJV 1 Kings 1:1 Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat. • 2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat. • 3 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king. • 4 And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.

  19. Achad Melachim 1: 1-31 • 5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. • 6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom. • 7 And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him. • 8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

  20. Achad Melachim 1: 1-31 • 9 And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants: • 10 But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not. • 11 Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not? • 12 Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.

  21. Achad Melachim 1: 1-31 • 13 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign? • 14 Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words. • 15 And Bathsheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king. • 16 And Bathsheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?

  22. Achad Melachim 1: 1-31 • 17 And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne. • 18 And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not: • 19 And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called. • 20 And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

  23. Achad Melachim 1: 1-31 • 21 Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders. • 22 And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in. • 23 And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. • 24 And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

  24. Achad Melachim 1: 1-31 • 25 For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah. • 26 But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called. • 27 Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him? • 28 Then king David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.

  25. Achad Melachim 1: 1-31 • 29 And the king sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress, • 30 Even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day. • 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.

  26. Matiyahu 2: 1-23 • KJV Matthew 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, • 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. • 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

  27. Matiyahu 2: 1-23 • 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. • 5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, • 6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

  28. Matiyahu 2: 1-23 • 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. • 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. • 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

  29. Matiyahu 2: 1-23 • 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. • 11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. • 12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

  30. Matiyahu 2: 1-23 • 13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. • 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: • 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

  31. Matiyahu 2: 1-23 • 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men. • 17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, • 18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

  32. Matiyahu 2: 1-23 • 19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, • 20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life. • 21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

  33. Matiyahu 2: 1-23 • 22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: • 23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene. • END

  35. “Jacob Have I Loved” • This teaching I’m going to do for you today is my favorite teaching of all time. • It was written about 30 years ago.

  36. “Jacob Have I Loved” • It’s not my teaching, it’s my dads, I have added a few things to it over the years, but it’s originally his concept.

  37. “Jacob Have I Loved” • Dad didn’t teach it very often when I was growing up. • He got a lot of flack for it. • If you asked him, he’d say it was one of the hardest messages to teach at the Churches.

  38. “Jacob Have I Loved” • I’ve been teaching it for over 20 years now, it’s the first teaching I ever did back then. • I have seen some people come unglued when they heard it, usually anti-Semites but

  39. “Jacob Have I Loved” • also from those who just don’t like to give up their old Sunday School stories or doctrine. • Messianics usually like this teaching for different reasons.

  40. “Jacob Have I Loved” • 1. It sheds new light on our Patriarch, Jacob. • 2. It’s gives a pro-Jewish view of the story of Jacob’s life. • 3. It opens up new ideas by taking a critical look at translational errors.

  41. “Jacob Have I Loved” • Now, before we start, I have a couple disclaimers. • Here at Beit HaTorah we have people from many different Church denominations.

  42. “Jacob Have I Loved” • Some come from a Baptist background, some from a Church of G-d background and some from an AG background and some from a 7th Day Adventist background as well as other Church denominations.

  43. “Jacob Have I Loved” • Some of you still attend those Churches. • You also attend here because, I assume, you feel you’re learning about Torah here and getting a Jewish perspective that you can’t get at your home Church.

  44. “Jacob Have I Loved” • No problem. • But what we want to ask you to please not do is go back to those Churches and tell your Pastor how he’s “got it all wrong and that Rabbi Stanley is going to straighten him out” or…

  45. “Jacob Have I Loved” • tell your pastor “he’s going to hell for lying to you”. • That wouldn’t be good 

  46. “Jacob Have I Loved” • We’re not trying to make enemies with the local Churches here in Wenatchee. • In fact we’re trying to educate them and instill in them a love for Israel. • That is our goal.

  47. “Jacob Have I Loved” • As far as their theology not being correct, we’re not going to change their minds over night. • We have to remember, they haven’t sat through the whole teaching you may have just sat through.

  48. “Jacob Have I Loved” • And without a PowerPoint or all the information right in front of you, you may not be able to present the case in the best way possible and even do more harm then good.

  49. “Jacob Have I Loved” • We do want you to share your new found knowledge, but please do so in a way that doesn’t harm this Congregation and please try to move forward in humility.
