  1. 3.3 - Angles Formed By Transversals Objective: #5 HW #4

  2. Defining Transversals • A transversal is a line that intersects two or more coplanar lines at different points. • In the diagram below, t is the transversal.

  3. Special Angles • The angles formed by two lines and a transversal have special names: • Corresponding Angles • Alternate Interior Angles • Same-Side Interior Angles • Alternate Exterior Angles

  4. Corresponding Angles • Two angles are corresponding angles if they occupy corresponding positions.

  5. Alternate Interior Angles • Two angles are alternate interior angles if they lie between the two lines on opposite sides of the transversal.

  6. Same-Side Interior Angles • Two angles are same-side interior angles if they lie between the two lines on the same side of the transversal.

  7. Alternate Exterior Angles • Two angles are alternate exterior angles if they lie outside of the two lines on opposite sides of the transversal.

  8. Example 1 Describe the relationship between the angles. a. 1and 2 b. 3and 4 c. 5and 6 SOLUTION a. alternate interior angles b. alternate exterior angles c. same-side interior angles Describe Angles Formed by Transversals
