Why Cooking? • Statutory 2 X 1 hour Physical Education is delivered in schools each week • After school activity provision has grown by 83% since 2009 • Food and Healthy Eating education is more ad hoc across schools • Cooking and food preparation is the most accessible health-related activity that families can do together – we eat everyday!

  5. Establishing a Cooking Club How will the club be financed and sustained? Who will run the club? Who is the club for? Targeted or Universal? What facilities and space do you have? Is it designed to support elements of the curriculum? How many can attend?

  6. Consultation Time • Pupils Involve the children in the decision making from the start • Parents/Carers Notify parents in newsletters and on the school website – they may end up being the volunteers you need to run the club • Staff Teaching staff may wish to use the cooking club to support an area of the curriculum or targeted children • Wider community Find out what is going on in your local area – district council may offer funding opportunities

Fundraising for Equipment • Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme • The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme provides one-off donations of between £500 and £4,000 to local projects that support children and their education and welfare, elderly people and adults and children with disabilities

  8. National Lottery Good Causes • The National Lottery funds projects in the UK that benefit the community and  'good causes'. This covers arts, heritage, sport, community and voluntary groups, health, education and environmental projects, and the Olympic games legacy. 0845 275 0000

Fundraising for Equipment • Big Lottery Fund • Grants from £300-£500,000 for projects in a variety of areas are available from the Big Lottery Fund. 0845 410 2030 • Awards for All • Awards for All award grants of between £300 and £10,000 for schools, and voluntary/community organisations in the UK running projects that enable people to take part in art, sport, heritage or community activities, or promote education, the environment or health in the local community. 0845 410 2030

  10. Fundraising for Equipment • BBC Children in Need • BBC Children in Need award grants for projects working with disadvantaged children and young people, aged 18 and under.  The small grants are under £10,000 for 1-3 years and the main grants are over £10,000 for 1-3 years. 0208 576 7788

Fundraising for Equipment • The Co-operative • Community groups and co-operatives can apply for support from The Co-operative. • Make Space Development Fund • Clubs, schools and youth organisations can apply to the fund for grants to create or develop after school clubs and activities. The use of the grants will be determined by the Make Space guidelines which were created in consultation with young people. www.makespace.org.uk

Other Fundraising Ideas • Making a charge for a cooking club • Pupil Premium – Targeted children (breakfast club, nurture provision) • Family Focus (Troubled Families) funding • Curriculum area budgets – science, PSHE, Citizenship (financial capability) • Links with local secondary schools – resources, equipment, facilities, delivery and expertise.
