Query Record Blocking Many Possible Matches Decision Making Match Non-Match Match Probability High Low Intermediate Human Review NSF Grant Number: DMI- 0216213PI: Andrew Borthwick, Ph.D. Institution: ChoiceMaker Technologies, Inc.Title: A Machine Learning Approach to Approximate Record Matching We are studying ways to make ChoiceMaker’s AI-based database matching technology faster, easier to deploy, more accurate, and applicable to a broader set of problem domains. In a U.S. Center for Disease Control benchmark test of immunization registry deduplication systems, ChoiceMaker got the highest score out of 5 systems. In a recent retest of ChoiceMaker on the same data, ChoiceMaker got even higher scores: 95.62% sensitivity and 100% specificity. Our automated blocking algorithm for finding possible matching records is highly accurate but too slow for very large problems, so we are studying new algorithms that will deliver the same accuracy at higher speed. We seek to reduce deployment time with new machine learning approaches. ChoiceMaker Matching Process Overview The advanced record matching developed under this grant is being deployed by the New York City Department of Health to track communicable diseases and children’s vaccinations, by the New York State Education Department to track statewide student test scores, and to build a public health registry of people in the vicinity of the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001.
