  1. Hair Growth After Hair Transplant Surgery Hair Transplant is a surgical procedure in which hair follicles from an area of excess, usually the back of the scalp termed as donor area are harvested and implanted over the scalp in the bald area termed as transplanted area. The course of hair growth post hair transplant is little different from the normal hair growth cycle as is to be expected. Post hair transplant within the first two weeks, maximum transplanted hair amounting up to eighty percent are shed off due to a shock loss. This is very normal after hair transplant and the patient need not panic. The rest of the transplanted hair continue to grow unabated in the normal manner. There is a waiting period of three to four months before the hair transplant recipient starts noticing small erupting hairs over the scalp. It normally takes six months post hair transplant to see a decent result and nine months to see good results. It may take a period of up to one year to see the result. The above notwithstanding, there are a lot of parameters affecting hair growth. The most important parameter is the take or survival of transplanted hair follicles in the recipient scalp. This too depends upon a lot of factors which are very important in the ultimate results obtained. A lot depends upon the technique used, surgical skill and the care of the extracted hair follicles during the surgery, pre surgery and post-operative scalp conditions, any infections and medical history of the person undergoing the transplant. If the person undergoing transplant is hale and hearty and does not have any underlying medical issues, it is a good prognostic factor. The client scalp should be clean, dandruff free and devoid of other scalp infections. Irrespective of the technique used (FUE/FUT or any of its variation), utmost sterile precautions should be taken during the surgery. The extracted follicles should be treated very gently with minimal exposure of the harvested hair grafts to environment. There should be minimal handling of the follicles and special care taken to avoid contact with the hair roots. How long does the hair transplant last? Ideally the transplanted hair should last a lifetime. Critical to this is the fact that during surgery the surgeon adheres to the critical donor area rule and harvests the hair from the safe donor area zone and does not go above it. Hair transplant thus is a gratifying surgery that changes the person’s entire appearance, enhancing the self-esteem, confidence and infusing extreme positivity in the individual.
