  1. Homosexual Military Discrimination Sarai Salvatierra Gisselle Garcia Jackie Rojas Chandler Franklin

  2. Why we chose this topic... • My group and I chose this topic because homosexuals, who have no choice in what they are, are not permitted to have the simple freedom of being in a relationship of the same sexual standing while in the military. •While straight couples are allowed to show affection to one another. • Homosexual people are treated differently (in a negative manner) than they would be if they were straight • They are not allowed to

  3. Background information Our topic simply relates to homosexuals in the military and the fact that they are treated differently from those who prefer the opposite gender, and are viewed as completely diverse and foreign to some. The specific conflict of homosexuals in the military arouse in the 1990’s, when abundance of them began to enroll inthe military, completely open about their sexuality, and were being harassed. In 1993, Bill Clinton established the well known, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT) policy. His intentions were not to shun or shame those who were gay, but to protect them from discrimination. The policy was repealed in 2011, but they are still not treated with equal rights and claims.

  4. Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell The Police states that a person who shows an intent to engage in samesex acts would create an unacceptable risk to the high

  5. One unique example of Media or around the world about this topic? One Unique example in the media about this topic is the show What Would You Do? they demonstrate how normal people react to the harassment aimed towards homosexuals in the military manifest their PDA in a public establishment.

  6. What is the most surprising/shocking thing your group has learned? The most surprising thing to us is the fact that homosexual people who have spouses that perish in the military, by the 1996 decree, aren't given the same benefits. The spouse of the homosexual individual is not considered an entire person, thus being a victim to decimation.

  7. What sources? Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT). (2014). In Encyclopaedia Britannica. Retrieved from http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/1553878/Dont-Ask-Dont-Tell Steven, L (2011, March 3). Gay Soldiers Harassed: What Would You Do? abcnews.com. Retived April 3, 2014, from http://abcnews.go.com/WhatWouldYouDo/gay-soldiers-harassed/story?id=12939285

  8. How has this subject influenced your life? The way this subject has influenced my life is by showing how ignorant the government and other people are treating homosexuals in the military is unfair and sexual orientation shouldn't have anything to do with enlisting in the military.
