  1. The Road to Renewal The Road to Licensure

  2. Earn continued education • Document that you have earned 24 hours of continued education (CE credit) which includes 3 hours of ethics. • Be sure that your documentation includes: • Course title • Instructor name • Date/s attended • Hours earned • Provider number

  3. Ethics credit • Be sure to earn and document 3 hours of education in ethics. • If ethics is not in the title, explain the course content so your application won’t be delayed. • Failure to document ethics is the #1 reason for delay in renewal.

  4. Reasons to renew early Unexpected glitches can delay your application, pushing its approval onto the next month’s agenda. It is illegal to practice with an expired license. Our law states that the renewal fee for even 1 day late is $150.00. After 90 days your license is terminated and you must reapply as a new applicant.

  5. Prepare early • Plan to have all CE credits earned 60-90 days before your renewal date. • Why? When you renew, it is smart to have all CE completed well in advance.

  6. ON-LINE RENEWAL suspended 1/1/2013! • Due to problems with antiquated software, it has been necessary to suspend online renewal until a solution is found and implemented. • The KBLMT has created new paper renewal forms that comply with state laws and regulations. • Once the renewal system has been upgraded, we will notify all licensees so that licenses can once again be renewed online.

  7. Renewing through the mail • Go the KBLMT website http://bmt.ky.gov/. • Under “Resources” choose “Applications and Forms”, then find the printable Application for Renewal form. • Print out and complete the application. Enclose your renewal fee and mail to: • KBLMT • Division of Occupations & Professions • P.O. Box 1360 • Frankfort, KY 40602

  8. USPS or special courier You can send your completed application either by mail or by a special courier such as UPS, FedEx or DHL. If you are using a special courier send your application to the following address: KBLMT Division of Occupations & Professions 911 Leawood Dr. Frankfort, KY 40602

  9. Use the right address MAIL WITH USPS SPECIAL COURIER OVER NIGHT MAIL KBLMT Division of Occupations & Professions 911 Leawood Dr. Frankfort, KY 40602 KBLMT Division of Occupations & Professions P.O. Box 1360 Frankfort, KY 40602

  10. Complete the application • Clearly list each class and the hours earned on the Renewal form. • Clearly identify your ethics class hours separately. • It is unnecessary to list your continuing education beyond the 24 hour requirement. • Total the hours you are submitting on the line indicated. • On your Renewal form, list ONLY the CE classes you are applying to the current renewal period.

  11. Using carry over hours • By law you can “carry over” up to 12 hours into the next renewal period. • You are responsible for tracking your own Carry Over hours. • You may NOT divide the hours earned in a single class between two renewal periods. • For example, if you earn 36 hours of CE in a single class, you may not carry over 12 hours into the next renewal period.

  12. Renewing with carry over Complete all of the required information for each course you submit and clearly identify as “carry over” any course hours that were taken during the previous renewal period. You may designate up to 12 hours as carry over credit.

  13. Dealing with an Audit Audits are randomly conducted by the KBLMT. If you receive a renewal notice is stamped “AUDIT” you must mail COPIES of all continuing education for this renewal period to the licensure board to: KBLMT Division of Occupations & Professions P.O. Box 1360 Frankfort, KY 40602

  14. Felonies & Misdemeanors • You must check the boxes related to felonies and misdemeanors found on the renewal form. • If you have been convicted during the renewal period, you must send evidence of the disposition of your case. • If the violation is a minor traffic violation official documentation is not required.

  15. Pay Attention to deadlines • Allow 3-5 days for mail delivery to Frankfort. • Applications must be received 10 days prior to the Application Committee meeting. • There are 3 days between the Applications Committee and KBLMT meetings. • Allow 5-7 days for posting on website. • NOTE: These are BUSINESS DAYS!

  16. Important information The Applications Committee meets the Wednesday before the KBLMT meeting to review applications for Board approval. Applications that are not available at that meeting might not be reviewed until the next month’s meeting. Board and Committee meeting dates are posted on the KBLMT website.

  17. More Important information The Fiscal Section receives and processes your fee before your application is sent to the KBLMT Board Administrator who processes your application. Check processing/cashing does not mean that your application has been approved!

  18. FEBRUARY 2012

  19. “Good to know“ facts Failure to document CE credits properly can delay renewal. The number one reason for delay is lack of ethics documentation.

  20. Bottom line • Complete all CE requirements at least 60-90 days before your anniversary date in preparation for renewal. • Plan to renew your license 60 – 90 days in advance for peace of mind. • Be aware of the timetable of board and committee meetings and don’t miss deadlines. • Check on-line verification to be sure that your renewal is listed there.

  21. Communication issues • Many questions can be answered by exploring the website so try there first. • EMAIL IS THE BEST FORM OF COMMUNICATION. • Use mail for all official communications and keep copies.

  22. Phone calls are inefficient. (Would you be efficient at returning phone calls for 4000 licensees?) • Our KBLMT Board Administrator oversees Two Boards and more than 4277 licensees!

  23. Our doors are open KBLMT meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend. Check the website for day, time and location. http://bmt.ky.gov/ To address the Board and be placed on the agenda, you must make a written request at least 10 days before the meeting. You must include topics to be discussed so the Board can be prepared to discuss them with you.

  24. Bottom Line Massage Therapy License Renewal is NOT like a Driver’s License Renewal
