  4. Respect • Remember there is a person on the other end of the computer • Speak to people the way you would if you were speaking face to face • Be kind • Remember, your written words can be saved, forwarded, and used again and again. Be sure what you write best represents you.

  5. Manners • Etiquette Counts • Begin each message or interaction with a salutation • Asking for help? Remember please and thank yous. • Use language that is appropriate for your audience • Allow a reasonable amount of time for your audience to respond

  6. Image • Your communications represent you • Put your best foot forward: • Proofread your communications • Address your audience by name • Be sure your message is clear • Remember, you cannot be seen online- jokes, sarcasm, etc may not translate well in writing.

  7. Privacy • Use your technology responsibly • Forward messages with permission • Do not share your passwords • Share personal information with caution

Flame Flame:Verbal attacks on other internet users via email, discussion boards, Elluminate sessions, etc. • Think before you type • Text in ALL CAPS means you are yelling • Avoid insulting or antagonizing your audience; treat others as you wish to be treated • Engage in discussions without resorting to personal attacks or name calling
