Cytotechnologist-are special trained Medical Technologists • Examine the cells microscopically for color, size, shape, structure and pattern for disease and treatment of illness. • Process tissues and body fluids for testing • ID abnormal change in cell to detect cancer, hormonal problems or other pathologic processes • Id tumor for Pathologists

  3. Area of Specialization- Cytotechnologists • Chromosome Banding Subspecialties • Molecular Diagnosis • Flow Cytometry • Hematology for Cytogenetics

  4. WORKING ENVIROMENT • Most work in a large hospital or private laboratories • University Research center • Government agencies • Self-employed • Day shift job only

  5. Length of Training • Usually required Bachelor’s Degree in MT program plus • One years work experiences and • One years special Cytotechnology instruction from a accredited school

  6. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION • Certification is required • May be obtained from ASCP Organization or HHS-(Health and Human Services)
