Write a 700-word essay that shows how sociology matters in helping to explain your chosen topic. Additionally, a person often belongs to many groups simultaneously. As a result, each of us has multiple dimensions of identity related to the diverse collection of statuses and roles that shape our daily interactions with others. Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: Think about groups you consider yourself part of or affiliated with either by an ascribed status or through achieving membership.
What primary and secondary groups do you belong to? How did you become associated with these groups? How do those groups affect how you behave? What differences exist among the groups in which you belong and other groups in your community? How do sociologists explain these differences? ============================================== SOC 262 Week 2 Sociology Matters (2 Papers) For more course tutorials visit www.tutorialrank.com Instructions: The purpose of this assignment is for you to apply what you learned about sociology concepts, methods and perspectives during this week’s learning activities. Sociologists define social institutions as “organized patterns of beliefs and behavior that are centered on basic social needs” (Schaefer 2019, p. 206). This week’s readings look in detail at five social institutions: family, religion, government, the education system, and the economic system. From the functionalist perspective, social institutions provide customs and ideas to meet society’s needs to replace its members, teach its members cultural norms, values, knowledge, and skills, provision it members with goods and services, maintain social control and order, and “provide and maintain a sense of purpose” (Schaefer 2019, p. 207). From a conflict perspective social institutions preserve the social status quo of roles, statuses, privileges. Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: How do social institutions help hold together human societies when they comprise individuals and social groups who hold diverse interests and aspirations? Which social institutions have changed the most in the last 50 years in the United States? How so? Have these changes made society better or worse? Which social institutions need societal reform and how would you work to change it? ============================================== SOC 262 Week 4 Sociology Matters (2 Papers) For more course tutorials visit www.tutorialrank.com Assignment Content
